What is TEFA?

Since 2012, Canada, BC, the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and the First Nations Schools Association (FNSA) have been implementing TEFA, which is a 5-year agreement with the primary purpose of improving achievement rates for First Nation students in BC.

TEFA provides a flexible funding model for First Nations schools, based on the provincial public education funding formula, with specific adaptations. TEFA also commits Canada and BC to consult on legislation and policy changes that impact First Nations education.

TEFA is due to expire in March 2017 and the First Nations Languages Focus Day is an opportunity to learn about the TEFA renewal efforts and provide feedback regarding First Nations language education in TEFA.
