Dear First Nations Schools,

On January 17, 2022, the Provincial Health Officer announced a new Public Health Order, School Staff Member Vaccination Status Reporting. This Order enables local Medical Health Officers (MHOs) to direct public school boards and non-First Nations independent school authorities to obtain the vaccination status of K-12 school staff and share it with the MHO in aggregate form.

Please be advised that this order does not apply to any First Nations schools, including First Nations independent schools. While First Nations may choose to put in place vaccination reporting policies for staff, they are under no obligation to do so based on this order.

FNESC and FNSA fully respect the authority of individual First Nations to make decisions about the operation of First Nations schools in the best interests of their students, schools, and communities.
