Principals Professional Development Day
9 December 2025
January 23, 2026 | Vancouver, BC & Zoom Videoconference
The First Nations Education Steering Committee and First Nations Schools Association are pleased to announce an exciting interactive opportunity for principals and school leaders in First Nation schools (K4-12) on January 23, 2026.
Although teachers are central to the learning that takes place at the classroom level, principals address a variety of school wide issues and they therefore have a significant impact on all of the teaching and learning that takes place in the school. Principals are also responsible for monitoring the school’s operations and programs to ensure that they are achieving relevant goals and leading to improvement.
How can school leaders accomplish the management tasks associated with their job, while fully engaging in their leadership responsibilities?
During this one day session, participants will work collaboratively to:
- examine the barriers preventing leaders from focusing on the leadership aspects of their role
- discuss how leaders can support the professional growth of their staff
- learn about:
- the importance of gathering and monitoring student achievement data
- the types of data school leaders consider
- building a climate of trust for those critical conversations with school staff; and
- consider using data to guide classroom and school decision making
This professional development opportunity is a hybrid event, hosted at the Sheraton Wall Centre in downtown Vancouver on January 23, 2026.
