The BC Tripartite Education Agreement (BCTEA), was signed in June 2018 by the First Nations Education Steering Committee, Canada, and British Columbia, and witnessed by the First Nations Schools Association.

BCTEA represents a cooperative commitment that formally recognizes the capacity of First Nations communities and schools in British Columbia to build and implement a relevant and research-based First Nations Education System.

More About BCTEA

BCTEA provides a flexible funding model for First Nations schools based upon the provincial public education funding formula, with adaptations to reflect First Nations schools’ unique characteristics.  BCTEA also provides funding for a comprehensive collection of second and third level services.

BCTEA commits FNESC, ISC, and the Ministry of Education to ongoing collaboration intended to benefit all students in British Columbia, regardless of where they attend school, and the parties meet frequently to advance BCTEA initiatives and to discuss education transformation opportunities presented by the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA).
