27 May 2021

Dear IAHLA Member Institutes,

I hope you are all keeping well.

On Monday, May 10, 2021, there was a virtual town hall meeting with the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, to discuss the preliminary public health guidance for September 2021 provided in the COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Primer. Participants at the town hall, hosted by Thompson Rivers University, included representatives from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, as well as senior representatives from public post-secondary institutions and post-secondary labour unions.

Key themes discussed at the town hall include the importance of getting students and staff vaccinated, measures needed to ensure student safety, and accommodation of international students and students who are immunocompromised or have a disability.

We are sharing this information with IAHLA institutes as there may be information that will be useful to you in your planning, recognizing that not everything will be relevant to all member institutes.
