IEP Support Workshop, September 26-27, 2024, Richmond

About the Event

This event is intended for Learning Assistance Teachers (LATs) who are interested in learning more about the Individual Education Plan process. Members of the Special Education (SEP) Team will be hosting training and information-sharing sessions intended to help LATs with SMART/Competency-Based IEP writing, planning goals and strategies, resource-building and classroom supports. Sessions will be based on the following topics:

– Traditional IEPs,

– CB-IEPs (beginners and advanced sessions),

– Universal design for Learning/class-wide supports,

– OT/SLP,

– EdPsychs and Level B Assessments,

– File Management and Planning your Year as an LAT,

– Exceptionalities Guide.

Attendees are encouraged to bring sample IEPs as the SEP team will be hosting an optional Q&A/work session in the afternoon of the second day.

This is an in-person event and will be held at the Vancouver Airport Marriott Hotel.

Eligibility

This workshop is for First Nation School Staff who write and support students and staff with Individual Education Plans.

Travel Expenses

Please note that participants will be responsible for paying their own travel and accommodation expenses, as well as all food and incidentals related to travel to and from the event. FNESC/FNSA will provide the facility, presenter, breakfast and lunch (which will be provided at 8:00 am and 12 pm respectively) during the event.

Schedule

September 26: Meeting 9:00 am-3:30 pm. Breakfast (8:00 am) and lunch provided.

September 27: Meeting 9:00 am-1:00 pm with optional Q&A/work session 1:00 pm-3:00 pm. Breakfast (8:00 am) and lunch provided.

Health

Please stay home if you are feeling unwell. Only registered participants are eligible to attend. Family and friends cannot attend the event at any time, including for meals. The decision to attend in-person events is a personal one and it should be made in consideration of your individual risk factors and vulnerabilities.
